Things are sort of back to normal, but our healthcare industry still remains affected as we still face shortages in hospitals and health centers. The industry is still trying to keep up with the demand for COVID-19 and continues to lack the support it needs. A great article from World Bank explores how our health systems can heal after a pandemic, linked HERE.

Though the pandemic may have relinquished its rules in Canada, we often forget that COVID-19 continues to spread worldwide, not to mention the threat of other diseases like monkeypox. Our mental health may be thanking us, and isolation is less frequent, but we still recommend taking precautions when it comes to COVID-19. Always protect yourself and others, and stay safe.

Below we’ve listed 5 ways you can continue staying healthy and safe post-pandemic:

1.Sanitize and wash hands

During the height of COVID-19, we were rigorously washing and sanitizing surfaces and high-touch areas. Now, sanitization has eased up and some are falling into old habits pre-pandemic. We encourage you to continue sanitizing your hands and high-touch point surfaces to limit contamination of disease or other illnesses.

2. Face Masks

Though face masks are not mandatory, we recommend wearing them indoors in crowded areas or public spaces to limit the spread of COVID-19. As nurses, we continue to protect ourselves and our clients from spreading the virus, and we recommend keeping yourself safe and others safe post-pandemic. Masks are one of the best ways to protect yourself and others (especially if you’re immunocompromised) from the virus.

3. Outdoor Gatherings

How exciting that events and gatherings are back in full swing?! It is fantastic! We are also lucky that it is summertime so we can spend as much time outdoors as possible. Whenever you can, spend time outside, and get some fresh air. Not only does it limit the spread of COVID-19, but our bodies and minds will also thank us!

4. COVID Testing and Symptoms

If you feel the onset of COVID symptoms, we recommend isolating and testing at home for COVID-19. It is best to stay home and isolate while keeping others at a safe distance to prevent the spread of infection. If you feel symptoms, stay home and call 8-1-1 for further directions.

5. Staying Active and Eating Well

Staying active and eating a balanced diet will always serve you well and increase your susceptibility to disease. We recommend daily exercise, maintaining good strength, getting outside, eating well, and good sleep to help you build better immunity and health.
